AGE: 57 • Mays Landing
Delany, Gerard Hugh, 57 of Mays Landing, NJ, joined his son, Daniel Patrick Delany and mother Theresa Delany in God's loving arms on June 4, 2013.
Gerry was born on June 12, 1955 in Maple Shade, NJ. He graduated from life's school of hard knocks and succeeded tremendously on sheer will and determination. In his early years he worked overlapping jobs to raise his family: Pantry Pride, lawn care, Wawa at night, and painting houses. His love of people and food led him to managing Deli Delight in EHT, as if it were his own. His dream became a reality when he initially managed and then purchased Sugar Hill Sub Shop in Mays Landing, NJ, along with his loving and supportive wife by his side. Sugar Hill Sub Shop has thrived over 30 years. His legacy will continue to succeed through Denise Delany for many years to come. He will be remembered as the "maker of a billion subs," the fisherman who always caught the biggest fish, and the best Mick Jagger imitator in NJ. His passions included first and foremost people, skiing, running, boating, fishing, and gardening. He added another hat to his repertoire by becoming a Public Adjustor for Lacovara's Public Adjusting Company in Ventnor, NJ.
Gerry's charismatic personality will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife Denise M. Delany; his son Gerry Jr. Delany (fiancé Kathy Wescott); his father Hugh Delany and Joan Delany; his brother Hugh Delany, sisters Theresa Levinson (husband Andy, son Shawn, and daughter Samantha), MaryAnn Fromm (husband Steve, daughter Shannon, son Stephen), Bernadette Delany (fiancé Gene Binda, sons Gene, Stephen, and daughter Heather), Jennifer Patterson (husband Mark), and brothers Thomas Delany (wife Sharon, daughter Kelly, son Thomas), and Michael Delany (son Michael). He will be especially missed by his loving nieces and nephews who adored him immensely.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 9, 4-7 PM at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 5021 Harding Hwy., Mays Landing, where a viewing will be held from 10 AM until the time of the Mass. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
